The project combines video and wall installations, dealing with the human needs to destroy and fight. In the centre of the wall installation: a panoramic view made up of flat images, silhouettes of generic people and a landscape, taken out of their historical context, placed in layered but flat surroundings, similar to the graphic elements of computer games.
The video is a mixture of diverse realities and cyberspace; the flat icons are created inside a flat but layered landscape. I work with common collective images, a mixture of everyday news and historical image data found online. In both parts of the project, in the video and in the installation, the figures are shadows of a violent action.
I am interested in the moment before a fight begins, the time for exercising, building up and imitating an imaginary battle scenario, the simulation of a war that might happen. Pretending to be injured and rescued, practicing in hiding and attacking, watching, building shelters.
